[Ilugc] Ubuntu does not detect keyboard on startup

It could be a random hardware problem that manifests randomly.

Also, I dont think its a problem with my keyboard not getting detected as
such. Since, on the LILO prompt I am able to choose the desired OS to boot
into and press the <ENTER> key. It is just that, by the time I reach the
Ubuntu login prompt, my keyboard input is not accepted anymore.

Try another distro like Debian or Fedora (Live CD will do) and see if
the problem persists.

As for more info, my machine runs on an AMD Athlon x64 dual core processor
with M2N-MX SE mobo, and my keyboard is a very old compaq model - SK-2800C
(if that helps). Considering that, Do any of you experience similar problems
with Ubuntu, or is it just my keyboard wearing out ?

With old keyboards I have experienced problems with certain key
strokes nothing like your problem.
