I had never tried to use mplayer earlier. I tried with mplayer
"vcd://2" and it works now. But Xine reports that "no input plugin
available for....". Now that I can watch the VCD using mplayer, i
don't have a control panel in mplayer to adjust the
contrast/brightness/ or fast forward. The video out of mplayer is too
bright and very little contrast.
This is easily taken care of.
Start mplayer with -vf hue and use the keys 1,2 for brightness
decrease/increase, 3,4 for contrast decrease/increase and so on.
Everything is of course documented very well in the mplayer man page.
I have never had to use any media player other than mplayer.
xine used to work just fine for me when I was with dapper.
Only problem with mplayer is it does not grok dvd menus. Other than
that, there is nothing that mplayer cannot do that some other software
can. :)
Yes, xine needs plugins and other stuff and its DVD decryption can
sometimes be very slow. mplayer has no such problems.
