To view Indian Language Unicode characters properly, enabling Indic
lang support is a must in Windows XP and it has nothing to do with the
particular browser.
Both in Ubuntu 7.10 and Windows XP, I have installed
the firefox extension
Padma 0.4.11 to read the tamil news sites.
The problem is soon after opening the sites in
firefox, the fonts areI
displayed properly only for a few a seconds. Then it
reverted to junk
characters.
What should I do for proper display of tamil fonts?
I have never used any extension to see the news sites mentioned in the
original post. I just installed the respective fonts of the news
website (for the first 3) and for thatstamil you need to enable Indic
lang support since it is already using Unicode/UTF-8.
For proprietary encoded fonts, some time changing your font encoding
to "ISO-8859-1" will help (for e.g. vikatan will show junk characters
in Firefox even if you have installed vikatan fonts given in their
website, but if you change the character encoding to iso-8859-1, then
you can read them properly :-) That's what I am doing for the last
few years.
