HI
Recently i purchased new DELL VOSTRO 2420 MODEL LAPTOP. In that i
installed centos 6.4 x86_64 and the kernel version is
2.6.32-358.el6.x86_64.
IN that, Wireless is not working with that OS.I used lspci command, it
shows the Network Controller : Broadcom Corporation BCM43142 802.11b/g/n
(rev 01).
Ethernet Controller : Realtek Semiconductor RTL8111/8168B PCI Express
Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 07)
In ubuntu 12.04, it is working fine. But in centos 6.4 (x86_64 ), it is not
working .
Any solutions for this one?
By process of elimination, it is apparent that the CentOS stock installed
kernel does not have the driver for your Wi-Fi card.
You have two options:
1. check if CentOS has a newer kernel package than that which is installed.
You may be lucky that the driver for your Wi-Fi card has been "back ported"
2. If not, then backport the driver from a newer kernel and compile it for
2.6.
3. Download the latest stable 3.10.x kernel, compile a RPM for CentOS.
4. Revert to Ubuntu, if you don't like Ubuntu then try some other distro
with a 3.2.x kernel (recommend Debian Wheezy) or higher.
