I haven't tried mod_python. But my guess is that
it might be slower than mod_perl. I would rather
recommend Zope for developing webapps if you
prefer python. This might involved a steep learning
curve. But its well worth the effort.

which is based on python framework seems promising,
though I cant comment on its stability and viability
on production deployments yet.
