You can see the /var/log/messages. It shows the contents of printk
even for the previous life of the kernel, unlike the dmesg.

I'm experiencing this peculiar and irritating problem with my computer.
Pentiuim-IV, Pctel HSP5 modem, Nvidia (66?? - driver version).
During night (after 9pm) I see my computer frequently resetting
itself. This was happening for the last 3 or 4 days.
Before the days of this problem, I hadn't done any major system
upgrade or install. Pctel driver was installed long before so even
that shouldn't be the cause of problem. I installed Nvidia driver
just now. Checked everything - no loose power cables.
Can anyone explain what might be wrong?
PS: dmesg outputs only the kernel log of that session (not the
previous session).
