Device files are files in the '/dev' directory. While it's true most linux
devices can be accessed as file, NICs are an exception.

What I'm trying to say is the file you mentioned in your reply[1]
(/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/<whatever>), is the 'config' file for the NIC
as
opposed to the /device/ file.
A device file has a very specific meaning in linux. A device file in linux is
something that is associated with a driver and has a major and minor number.
Please do read the wikipedia link that I sent you. Arguing about this further
undermines your credentials as a RHCE that your sig claims you are.
