at least for ubuntu, intel chipset is good..
nvidia graphics is supported by restricted drivers.
intel 3945 network card is supported, again by restricted drivers
mmc reader does not work out of the box, haven't tried to make it work.
headphone jack, spdif jack etc works fine with latest release, gutsy gibbon
hot-plugging of s-video tv-out supported
and webcam detected successfully by ekiga.

Here i am posting a mail, looking forward for valuable suggestions,

I thought of buying a notebook and its particulars are posted below.
Before buying a notebook i want to know its compatibility with Linux
and the distribution its supports.
If any of you who where using the same/ similar machine please write
down your thoughts. Please i choosed a wrong please do correct me. I
made an enquiry in one of the hp show room, the below mentioned
notebook comes around 55K, including additon 1GB RAM + taxes. please
