[Ilugc] no desktop icon for usb

You have a Systems or Computer Icon on your desktop, click it. A
nautilus window will open showing your hard disks, floppy and CD drives.
When you have plugged in the USB drive, it will also show your USB drive
there. You can right click and select unmount.
I don't remeber much, but there was some GNOME option to select the
conditions for which an icon should be displayed on the desktop, like
"mounted CD drive", "unmounted CD drive", etc. which also had show icons
for USB drives when they are mounted, over the desktop. I am sorry that
I couldn't figure out where I saw those options :(
