Sure. I got around 128M of useful SDRAM. But I think my CPU is
sorta-damaged by me touching it frequently (while running) and giving
it the 'static'.

| Have you compiled mplayer with OSS or ALSA support? If it's the
| former, you need to enable OSS emulation, etc. in your kernel config.

I tried both alsa and oss output options in mplayer. and also I got
oss emulation in alsa. But one thing to note: Everything is compiled
into the kernel. Is that okay? (because sometime back there were
drivers which wouldn't work when compiled into the kernel but would
work as modules). I haven't tried modules yet.

ah, ok. thanks.

I guess so. There are some hazy messages online about ALSA
playing this sound card badly. I just tried knoppix and there its
the same thing.

| Yeah, this is a nuisance, and it's found in most of these

| cabinet (sometimes with the help of a rear-slot L-bracket with a

| speaker and mic sockets. A classic Taiwan-special kludge.
|
| Some motherboards provide these signals on a header near the front
| panel connectors, which can be used if you have the right cable (a
| pair of sockets on one end, and a pair of berg female plugs on the
| other).
`----
Ah... too much of a pain. I'm used to connecting all the audio cables
in the rear. Thanks a lot for the info.
cheers,
