Dude
The Stalling issue is very common in Linux USB.
The reason is the host controller drivers ( UHCI and OHCI ) and particulary the
UHCI are not good enough in 2.4 series kernels.
I don't know how good it is in 2.6 kernels.
Some quick suggestions / questions
If you have the access to source code, try to clear the stall condition. ?
The USB subsystem provides calls for clearing stall.
USe only OHCI, It is much better than UHCI.
Plug out the usb modem and plug in again. ( BTW does the stall condition occur
to you at regularly at some time or is it arbitrary )

I got my DSL account working under Linux finally. The modem that I have
is a
USB only one using the Alcatel chipset similar to speedtouch. RH 9.0,
kernel
2.6.9. I can help if anyone needs to do this for themselves. Will
