[Ilugc] which linux flavor to use???

Slackware is the best for PC's with fewer configuration. But installation
and configuring X is a bit tweaky at times.

System requirements for slackware.

I just wanted to know is there any light weight Ubuntu distro available?

Do a Debian base installation and then apt-get install <blah..blah>
which ensures better performance on low end machines (I did it with my
PIII/192MB - having xfce4 and other applications)
