[jawsscripts] Scripting Approach

Hi All,
 
New to scripting and need some advice on how to approach a problem.
 
I have a situation where I have one application that presents a telephone 
number (10 digits) that is read by Jaws and then needs to be input into another 
application to do a database lookup to read back the customer information. A 
straight cut and paste won't work since the telephone number in the database 
program is 2 seperate fields, area code and phone number. Doing two cuts and 
pastes is too cumbersome. Any ideas?
