This is certainly on topic.
Having not played with WindowEyes scripting I will give my two cents.
1. I expect that as a whole the WindowEyes scripting capabilities are more
flexible and featureful than JAWS. I have found the programming
restrictions and limitations of JAWS to be frustrating at best.
2. Without having statistics I would say that the majority of users, and
more importantly rehabilitation professionals, are sort of set on JAWS as
the only solution. This means that like it or not the user base is most
familiar with JAWS and this will likely not be changing in the near future.
3. I do think that it is a great marketing plan, if not just good for
everyone, that GW Micro has begun to offer payment plans for WindowEyes.
This will certainly reduce the barrier for individuals interested in
switching screen-readers. But, the switch will only come if GW Micro can
show JAWS users that there is a substantive reason to switch.
4. Because of the limited number of scripters and open source scripting
projects for either major (in market share) screen-reader I think that it
will be difficult for any company to significantly influence the market.
