Oops sorry didn't think of that because our company has switched over to
windows 10. Which I really really like. Especially if one has a problem and
jaws stops talking then one can always quickly start up narrator.
p.s. by the way Microsoft has just announced that they will be including teams
with all Microsoft accounts. Which means anyone with a windows new computer
will get teams. So it sounds like the skype days maybe limited and skype will
go the way of that famous flightless bird the dodo.
If you are looking for a communication application check out zoom. But make
sure you keep the application up to date as well as use all the security
features. Zoom had a few issues last week, but the majority were around folks
not using features like passwords on their invitations as well as the waiting
room. Jonathan Mosen has written a book about using zoom with jaws and during
the covid19 issue he has made the book favailable for free.
Echeck it out. zoom is extremely easy to use. And one can get it for phones as
well. It works great.
Have a good day.

Thank you Shan and Doug for the advices regarding Teams. I am trying to find a
better Skype alternative and your messages are helpful.
Under Windows 7 however, I think that Teams remains inaccessible for JAWS, no
matter if it is restarted or not, so it is probably useful only when using it
under Windows 10.

Subject: [jawsscripts] my experience of using teams with jaws!!!
Hi all!
Since the new norm is to be working from home and I'm now on my 4th
week of working from home and we use teams a lot I've discovered a lot
of things that makes teams and jaws really nice and easy to use.
1. The first thing is get your hands on the key board shortcuts.
They make your life very nice. Whe I started out in teams I use to
tab around a lot. It drove me nuts. But now with the short cut keys
and a bit of work I no longer tab much at all.
Use the control key with numbers 1 through 5. The important one is
control
+ 2 this puts the chat recent list in focus.
One can jump back and forth through you recent chats by holding down
the alt key and hit the up or down arrow keys. Its great. Sure beats
the tabbing back to the chat list and then arrowing up and down until
you find the person you want to chat too. Just use the alt and up or
down arrow keys and as the screen changes to another person on the
recent chat window it will tell you who it is.
Enter in your chat messages in the chat message window and when you
hit enter it just sends it. When the person writes back the
notification will tell you what they said. But if you didn't catch it
then shift tab from the chat input window and you can arrow up and read the
conversation.
The other thing that drove me nuts was the difficulty of setting my
status. I would tab around until the cows came home sometimes I would
find the area to change m my status and sometimes not.
Well again the short cut keys come to the rescue.
Control + the slash jumps you into the command window area, and so you
can either cursor down, or just type the word available and hit enter
and the status will get updated and it tells you, or to see the
options use the down arrow keys to see the choices and hit enter on the one
you want.
Another important key stroke is the control + period key this will
show the keyboard short cuts.
The only problem I've encountered with teams is when I switch over to
it from another program sometimes jaws is messed up. So a quick
windows key and up arrow to maxiumize the window often fixes this, or
if I'm not sure a control + 2 to pull the recent chat window helps things as
well.
Sorry about the long email. But I wanted to give or outline things
that I've discovered while using teams. It works very very nicely with jaws.
Take care everyone and have a good day.
