That’s really interesting, Glenda! I generally see more immatures/1st winter
white-crowneds than adults during the winter here (usually a few adults are
among lots of immatures). I believe I’ve heard that in some species younger
birds are pushed out of prime habitats by adults, but I don’t know whether that
is only during the breeding season or year-round. Now you have me thinking
about habitat selection and use…
