Shortly after photographing Pepe Le Grackle (that’s definitely his name now), I
poked my head outside and heard the Curve- billed Thrasher singing. While I was
unsuccessfully trying to record it over my neighbor’s barking dog, a small
raptor flew in, calling, and briefly landed on a utility pole. It was a Merlin
(Prairie)!!! It flew off and joined another Merlin circling over a neighbor’s
house! New yard bird!
I never did hear or see the Sandhill Cranes though :/
Despite only normally having doves, house sparrows, and grackles, I might be in
the double digits for yard birds now! ;)
