I hijacked your request with a comment about the snake. i've always just called them "Bull Snake", So I looked it up in a couple of Brad's reptile books and see in the west they are a subspecies of "Gopher Snake". Growing up on the edge of the Frio draw i saw a lot of them as well as Prairie Rattlers. Also saw them in Missouri. Once about 20 years ago as I was doing a run, I saw about 5 feet of snake coming out of a ground squirel hole on the east side of Chicago near 57th street where I think the lot is still vacant. Boy when I pulled it's other foot and head out of the hole there was one mad snake! After my run, I drove back over and searched the whole lot and did not find it. I had my gunny sack and a forked stick to try and catch it and take it out of town. Never found it. George Dr. George W. Jury 3807 75th Place Lubbock, TX 79423
