Dont see Broad-wing being a possibility. Zoned-tailed hawk would be close.
The tail pattern is the clinching thing to me. Perfect match. Z-t hawk

I was at Clapp Park on the path between the Playas and saw this Buteo.Â
Based on the tail pattern is could be a Common Black-Hawk but it lacks the
white patch behind the bill. It seemed to be about the same size as a
Cooperâs Hawk â maybe a little larger. The tail pattern in flight
seemed to match a Broad-winged but I didnât get a picture of that. So,
Iâm leaning toward Dark Morph Broad-winged Hawk. Any thoughts?
