I thought you might be interested to know that I saw a Black-throated Sparrow in Clapp Park today (the 27th). I was in Lubbock today for work and stopped at Clapp Park to look for the Evening Grosbeak, which I did not find. All those evergreens on the north side of the park were devoid of birds of any kind. But, in looking for the Evening Grosbeak, I found the Black-throated Sparrow. It was hanging around a brush pile at the north end of the that tree-lined dike (or whatever you call it) that runs through the currently dry playa. If that is not clear, I was walking west past the very north end of the dry playa by the stand of junipers where the Evening Grosbeak should have been. If I had kept walking west I would have reached a baseball field, and if I had started walking southwest I would have reached the arboretum. Instead, I turned south to reach the deciduous trees developed along that dike and right there at the start of the trees is a pile of brush or big pile of cut branches where the sparrow was. From there you could take a gravel path west to the arboretum or walk more south / southeast down the trail that goes along the dike with the now leafless deciduous trees on either side of it and dry playa beyond that. If you're interested in looking for that bird and those directions aren't clear, please let me know and I'll send you a Google Earth pin to show the location. Hope you've been well. Best regards, Paul Sunby Austin
