Greetings All:
I just received word that birders are being chased off the Garganey
site by city and county law enforcement - on private property grounds.
I spoke with the water folk in Lockney a few years back and they
assured me that, provided nobody hopped the fence, birding was
permissible. The city water department's phone number is 806-652-2355
and I am hoping that somebody with either the local audubon chapter or
with some connections to Lockney will reach out to them tomorrow and
get access restored ... ar at least find out what happened to change
access rules.
In the meantime, it might be best to avoid the site - so as not to
exacerbate the situation and drive local law enforcement into an
entrenched position.
This is a registered eBird hotspot and, up until now, the city seemed
fine with having a few people spending money at the local convenience
stores/gas stations.
