While trying to get a good look at a roosting Common Nighthawk at the cemetery
yesterday, an immature Cooper’s Hawk flew in for a good look. A Cooper’s
flushed at lake 6 just outside the cemetery today was probably the same bird.
Similarly, the Osprey spotted yesterday at lake 6 was probably the same bird
there again today. Other raptors included 7 Mississippi Kites (lake 6 and
Cemetery today), 2 Swainson’s Hawks (E. 19th today), and a Kestrel (liquor
store road today). Also on liquor store road, a Loggerhead Shrike made an
appearance. There were 2 Spotted Sandpipers on the spillway yesterday, but they
were gone today. Lots of flycatchers, including Wood Pewees (several places
both days), Olive-sided (2 @ the cemetery today), an Empid that I tentatively
identify as a Cordilleron (today at lake 6), and 12 Scissortails (7@lake 6
today and 5 along the east loop, also today). No warblers yesterday, but today
at lake 6 I had 3+ Wilson’s Warblers, 2+ Yellow Warblers, and an immature male
American Redstart.
