daughter rides. The playa was frozen solid, but that didn't stop what was by
my rough count some 1550 Sandhill Cranes standing there, looking like ice
skaters crowding a rink. Curiously all the cranes were on the ice—not one of
them in the fields surrounding it, where I've seen them feeding before.
