Don’t remember what time they were originally reported, but I suspect that it
was early evening as they came to roost for the night. Timing is everything.
Good find on the shrike and thrush. Seems early for the Avocet, but what do I
know. Birds do what they do when they do it.

We were out at the northern playa in Clapp Park to look for blackbirds on
Sunday afternoon. They were all gone (except the grackles), but we saw two
birds that were new for us: a loggerhead shrike and a hermit thrush.

PS Also spotted a lone American Avocet at the playa near 103rd and Slide Rd.
