yesterday i drove through mud and sand east and west of brownfield and
meadow looking for that guy or guys. no luck. when the cranes are really
far off and have their heads buried down in the grain stubble it's really
difficult to spot the common crane. this was my sixth attempt over the
last two seasons. i guess it wasn't meant to be. maybe next year. i did
see some neat birds however and the biggest jackrabbit i've ever seen. i
bet that sucker was at least two feet tall as it sat. i did see a few
hundred lark buntings, many cranes of course, field sparrows (you experts
correct me if i'm wrong) and a couple of curved-billed thrashers. hope
you like these images.

life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely
in a pretty and well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside,
thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming-WOW-WHAT A
RIDE!
