Pygmy Hog needs your helpVote for Pygmy Hog - Manas National Park and help save both CLICK HERE to make the Pygmy Hog one of the AZE 7 Wonders
The Alliance for Zero Extinction (www.zeroextinction.org) has launched AZE 7 Wonders campaign at the IUCN World Conservation Congress to highlight the conservation needs of some globally threatened and critically endangered species in the social media, and the Pygmy Hog from Manas is the only finalist from India (please see the press release below). The Pygmy Hog (Porcula salvania) is a unique member of the pig family with no surviving close relative. Once found in the grasslands south of Himalayan foothills, its original population currently survives only in Manas National Park of Assam and nowhere else in the world. The Pygmy Hog Conservation Programme (PHCP) is trying to save the species from extinction using captive breeding and reintroduction in restored habitats. PHCP is a collaborative project of Durrell, IUCN/SSC Wild Pig Specialist Group, Assam Forest Department, and is managed by EcoSystems-India, a local non-profit, which has been a member of the Alliance for Zero Extinction for 7 years and works in Assam to save endangered species and natural habitats.
We urge you to visit the www.AZE7Wonders.org site and vote for your favourite species. More importantly, please pass this link to your friends, colleagues and constituents and encourage them to vote as well, further raising the profile of the species and AZE across the globe.Thank you,
Goutam
