Call for enthusiastic volunteers for a DST funded project supported by
LaCONES, CCMB, Hyderabad
Project title: Effects of Understorey Vegetation on Tree Carbon
Sequestration in Tropical Dry Deciduous Forest
Project description: Plant ecological research project to understand the
nature of invasive understorey species and the dynamics associated with
native tree community at a Seasonally Dry Tropical Forest. Monitoring plots
to study vegetation spatial patterns and growth.
Nature of the work: The work involves accessing the plots in core areas of
the tiger reserve. Current typical field day would mean getting up early,
plan for the day with the core team, access plots in the forest and work
among the harsh bushes to measure plant growth variables.
About the reserve: Amrabad Tiger Reserve is India’s second-largest tiger
reserve, situated South-east of Telangana, about 150 Kms from Hyderabad.
Nested among the Nallamala hills, the reserve holds vast stretches of
seasonally dry tropical forests, a home to Chenchu tribal people and
interesting fauna such as sloth bear, tiger, leopard, wild dog, sambar
deer, spotted deer etc. If we are lucky, we get to spot the pristine fauna
this reserve has to offer.
Eligible volunteers: Hardy nature enthusiasts, willing to do work with keen
presence of mind in tough conditions.
Minimum one week of commitment is requested.
