May be of interest to some. For YETI, Rashmi. ---------- Forwarded message ---------- From: Arun Kanagavel <arun.kanagavel@xxxxxxxxx> Date: Tue, Dec 18, 2012 at 10:47 PM Subject: Cochin Forest Cane Turtle and Travancore Tortoise Researcher & Wildlife Enthusiast survey To: meet.yeti@xxxxxxxxx Dear Robin, Could you please post this on the YETI network With respect to an ongoing Rufford Project on "Assessing the distribution and threats to the Travancore Tortoise and Cochin Forest Cane Turtle" we are trying to put together unpublished reports and researcher and wildlife enthusiast perceptions. Please find attached 2 questionnaires towards this. Could you please fill this in if you have encountered either or both of the species and also distribute it among your friends and any other who you think would have come across them. Kind Regards, Arun Kanagavel "The Western Ghats Hotspot of India is home to two endemic terrestrial rainforest chelonians, the Cochin Forest Cane Turtle (*Vijayachelys silvatica*) and Travancore Tortoise (*Indotestudo travancorica*). Both the species are threatened and listed as Endangered and Vulnerable as per the IUCN Red List. With respect to this and existing gaps of our understanding of this species, we, the Conservation Research Group, Kerala http://crgkerala.wordpress.com/ have enclosed a questionnaire relating to each. We request all researchers and wildlife enthusiasts who have seen this species to kindly fill these, in order to improve our understanding of the distribution and threats to the two species and the mitigation measures that need to be begun in order to improve their conservation. Please email the completed forms or any related queries to workwithcrg@xxxxxxxxx We also request you to share any GPS data available and photographs. These will be duly acknowledged in any reports and co-authorship provided in case of any resulting journal publications when the shared photos or GPS data are used." -- Young Ecologists Talk and Interact (YETI) <http://www.meetyeti.in/> To unsubscribe (i.e. stop receiving YETI broadcast emails in future) please visit <http://www.freelists.org/list/meetyeti> or send an email to <meetyeti- request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> with “unsubscribe” in the subject.
