Internship opportunities to study small mammals in the Trans-Himalayas
We are inviting applications for a research program on small mammal behaviour
and habitat use in the Trans-Himalayan landscape. Opportunities are available
for people to join the program in various capacities, typically starting as
field interns for the upcoming season, with eventual opportunities to enter PhD
programs either at IISER Tirupati or IIT Tirupati. The primary and immediate
need is for field interns (July-October 2022). While the project will focus on
understanding small mammal ecology and behaviour, it includes a significant
component of using technology (remote sensing, radars, imagery, spatial data)
to further our understanding of communities and habitat use.
Duration: Field interns are required between July - October 2022, with possible
extension for data entry, analysis and processing at IISER Tirupati.
Location: Trans-Himalayan landscape of the Western Himalayas. Work will be
focused in altitudes above 3300 m, sometimes up to elevations of 5000m asl.
Skills needed:
-Experience and strong interest in working in high altitudes
-Strong interest in animal behaviour
-Driving four-wheeler (preferred) or two-wheeler vehicles
-Trekking/hiking/mountaineering experience
-Knowledge of mammalian systems
