Subject: Internship with Shola Sky Island project

IISER Tirupati is looking for eight interns to work on
the Shola Sky Island project from February 2023 onwards. The internship
period will be for at least two months, starting mid-Feb.
The project's broad goals are to examine the spread of woody invasive
species across the Sky Island landscape and its relationship with the bird
community.

Major roles:
- Helping the project team leaders in collecting the data.
Requirements:
- Prior knowledge of Shola plant species for identification is not
required, but some experience conducting fieldwork and vegetation sampling
will be critical.
- Prior knowledge of all Shola birds is also not needed as we are targeting
a few select species, but experience with birding is vital.
- We prefer those who can bring their motorbikes (geared or gearless) to
the field for this project. We will pay for the transport of the bike and
fuel costs on the field (please discuss the details with us).
We are looking for individuals who can work in concert with a mixed-gender
team of 20 but can function reasonably independently with their targets.
Basic field accommodation and food will be provided, but all team members
are expected to share field station duties.
Since this is a continuous fieldwork position, it may not work for students
pursuing a degree (bachelor's or master's) and will not be suitable for a
master's dissertation.

Besides exposure to the Sky Island landscape and occupancy sampling,
interns will also get exposure to other students' research conducted in the
landscape, including avian acoustics, bird handling, and blood sample
collection.
Certificates of internship and letters of recommendation to other
institutions or academic programs can be provided to all interns.
Candidates with experience will be paid remunerations. Details will be
shared on request.
We will conduct telephonic interviews and talk to referees on the phone.
The position will be closed as soon as appropriate candidates are found.
