Dear All,
Junior Research Assistant position at Valli Sustainability Research and
Education.
Valli Sustainability Research and Education (VSRE) aims to conduct and
support global sustainability research from local scale to global scale.
Following the footsteps on "Strive for creating better life for future
generations" - *Valli* *Murugan*
Sustainability can be achieved when all facets of a community, society or
nation function in harmony and synergy. Our aim is to conduct and support
quality research work with sustainable developmental goals in various
disciplines Engineering, Life sciences, Medicine, Social science, Economics
and Ecosystems.
The primary aim of the research position is to support identification of
sustainable agricultural management practices and challenges associated to
climate change adaptation across farming systems. This is central to
integrate diverse set of agricultural and soil management knowledge for
achieving the goal of effective soil monitoring and evidence-based policy
decisions. The overall aim of this research assistant position is to
identify, collect, harmonize and synthesize knowledge availability and
knowledge needs through farm survey, existing databases and literature
reviews.
*Your responsibilities:*
● Development of standardized farm survey questionnaire for data
collection from taluk and district level farms
● Selection of diverse set of farms across taluks and districts in
Tamil Nadu state, starting from Kanchipuram district.
● Collection of existing knowledge through qualitative interviews on
selected farms across Kanchipuram district.
● Assessment of knowledge availability, harmonization of data and
identification of knowledge gaps on various soil quality indicators
● Monitoring of restoration site(s) and collection soil samples for
analysis of selected soil biodiversity, biochemical parameters and soil
pollutants (eg. Microplastics, pesticides etc.,)
● Contribution to the development of NGOs website and dissemination of
agricultural research innovations to multiple stakeholders (farmers, policy
makers, students etc.,) via scientific articles, policy briefs and popular
articles.
● Interact closely with national (Andaman mangrove restoration sites;
) and international project partner groups (SOILBON, EJP SOIL, EUdaphobase,
European Soil Observatory, MINOTAUR work packages and EJP SOIL)
● Participate in project meetings and contribute to project reporting
● Contribute to publications on this topic in cooperation with the
project team
● Contribute to writing research proposals
*Required Qualifications and Skills*
● A Bachelor or Master’s degree in agricultural science, environmental
sciences, biology, botany or other appropriate disciplines
● Strong interest and experience in qualitative research
● Experience and knowledge with agricultural management practices and
farming systems
● Basic knowledge on soil and climate
● Skills and motivation to work with international teams
● Very good knowledge of written and spoken English
● Stress resilience, *reliability*, independence
Desired but not essential skills
● Data analysis (qualitative data)
● Sampling and laboratory experience with soil and plant samples
● Experience in scientific programming and data visualization are
desirable
*Additional information *
● VSRE is a new NGO that is currently being built officially (website,
team, and registration are under process) and will be merged with various
national and international research projects.
● Strong possibility to apply for the access to EJP SOIL
infrastructure fellowship -

● The successful candidate will have the possibility to collaborate
with interdisciplinary team of scientists in EJP SOIL programme and at
Institute of Soil Research the BOKU Vienna.
● The position is initially limited to 6 months with the possibility
to extend upto 2 years upon successful evaluation and mutual interests.
● The ideal starting date is 10.08.2022.
● The candidate has an opportunity to work in close collaboration soil
biodiversity projects and be part of a large network researchers in the
field of soil biodiversity in Europe.
● The candidate has an opportunity to create his or her own project
plans and implement them.
