This monsoon, Herpactive is organizing a Monsoons Conservation Photography
Expedition to the unique rainforests of the Western Ghats of India.
Experience some of the wettest places in South India, get up-close with
diverse endemic species of the Western Ghats of India and interact with
researchers studying these forests. And possibly see over a hundred varied
endemic forms of biodiversity , enough for half a lifetime!
Dates – 14th to 16th June, 2019 (Friday to Sunday)
About the expedition
Rainforests of the Western Ghats of India come alive in the monsoons. Life
erupts from every nook and cranny. The forest floor is abuzz with activity
and so is the bush and the tree canopy. With the birth of a myriad streams
and rivulets that sustain an array of life forms, this is the best time to
photograph jewels of these classified world heritage sites. From fungi to
insects and reptiles, newly discovered amphibians to an array of flora,
this is an expedition for nature and self discovery.
We will travel through dense forest areas in Goa and Karnataka following
the South West monsoons, stay at research stations and quaint home stays
and explore the Western Ghats like never before.
The expedition will include hands on-field classes on rainforest ecology
and conservation photography by herpetologist and conservation photographer
Nirmal Kulkarni and his team. Focused sessions on photographing
biodiversity of the rainforests in ethical, technical and legal means will
be dealt with.
TARGET WOULD BE TO DOCUMENT A 100 ENDEMIC LIFE FORMS IN 4 DAYS-achieving
this itself would be a life time experience in its true sense.
About Conservation photography
Conservation photography is nature photography with a purpose. Our work
will help local conservation efforts, support on going conservation science
programs and help freeze images of biodiversity in this region of high
endemism. We will also document cultures and forest landscapes as part of
our expedition and absorb as much of the Western Ghats flavor as possible.
Who can join
Join this expedition if you love the rains and rainforests. We will have a
lot of both. A bit of physical fitness to endure monsoonal challenges is
needed. Equipment users from smart phones to DSLRS and sports cameras are
welcome to join up here.
This will be a small group of 4-5 team members only so hurry up. Limited
seats.
Expedition Fee
The Expedition fee is Rs.18,000/- per person.
