This work is part of a PhD project aimed at understanding the functional
connectivity of sympatric carnivore species in the multi-use landscape of
Central Terai. The position would involve participating in sign surveys of
carnivores to collect non-invasive genetic samples. This would primarily
involve walking on forest trails for 10-15km/day. Apart from the fieldwork,
the intern would also be required to help in project planning and team
management.
*Location:* Pilibhit TR, UP
*Project duration:* February 2023 - April 2023
*Minimum qualifications and expectations*
- BSc/MSc in any field
- Physically fit to endure long field hours and rough working conditions
- Team player, comfortable with shared accommodation and basic facilities
- Ability to communicate in Hindi
- *Minimum commitment of 2 months* for paid position
*Desired skills*
- Experience with fieldwork
- Experience working in teams
- Prior exposure to genetic sampling
- GPS handling and GIS mapping
*Perks*
- Remuneration - 10k/month (only for interns)
- Opportunity to learn genetic sampling and survey methods
- Certificate/letter of participation at the end
Train/bus travel to the field site and all other expenses including
accommodation, food, and within-site travel would be covered by the project.
*The intern position is ideal for students who have recently completed
their Bachelor's or Master's degrees and are looking for field or research
experience.* People currently involved in courses are *NOT ENCOURAGED* as
it requires longer on-field commitment. However, I would be willing to take
volunteers (unpaid) who can commit to the project for 2 weeks or more.
