Project title: Determinants of spatial foraging patterns in the
endangered lion-tailed macaque (Macaca silenus)
Project description: The project involves studying nutritional ecology
of the lion-tailed macaque, specifically, foraging strategies with
respect to spatio-temporal variation in nutritional quality of food
plants. The study involves mapping of food resources and movement
behaviour. The study entails rigorous fieldwork involving direct
observation of monkeys from dawn to dusk.
Project position: Research assistant (full time position for 12 months)
Eligibility: Bachelors in environmental science, zoology, botany or
Masters in ecology, wildlife biology or any allied disciplines with a
keen interest in behaviour. Candidates with some prior field
experience who will be able to work independently under difficult
field conditions are encouraged to apply. The recruited person has to
work under the overall supervision of the Principal Investigator to
whom monthly progress reports have to be communicated. Basic computer
skills and basic plant identification skills are a requirement.
