Nothing new is contained in > this paragraph. 1080p60 exceeds the luma sample rate limit in MP@HL, so you cannot do 1080p60 and be MPEG2-legal without a new level. I'd say that someone has figured out that their existing codec silicon can run at the necessary clock rates. With CE manufacturers scrambling to slap a 1080p label ("I don't know what that means, but I totally want it") on everything, it isn't too surprising. If bandwidth is not a major issue, 1080p MPEG2 is probably a useful option. It would certainly require a lot less computes, draw less power, generate less heat than 1080p AVC. gary Gary Hughes Video Architect, Advanced Engineering Motorola On Demand Solutions, MA34 80 Central St. Boxborough, MA 01719 Email: ghughes@xxxxxxxxxxxx Office: 978 266 7269 Mobile: 978 339 3615 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- You can UNSUBSCRIBE from the OpenDTV list in two ways: - Using the UNSUBSCRIBE command in your user configuration settings at FreeLists.org - By sending a message to: opendtv-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with the word unsubscribe in the subject line.
