But this is not a compelling enough reason to have an antenna for the rare cases when the cable or DBS service do not work. The reality is that when cable and DBS are not working, local TV broadcasts may not work either - the largest cause is power outages. The reality is that people keep radios around for many reasons. One of these reasons is the fact that portable radios work, whether or not the power and weather are cooperating. I have not watched a local TV newscast in months. I would estimate that I have spent less that an hour watching local TV news during the past year, and most of this was to SEE the local radar from Orlando when hurricanes were in the neighborhood. I spend as much time listening to RADIO news in a week, as I do watching local broadcast TV news in a year. I do watch the cable news channels; I do read the local newspaper; and I do use the Internet extensively to keep up with news weather and sports information. I could easily survive ANY emergency without TV.
