Once the government asserts control over one aspect of the internet, they
then have a way to control ALL ASPECTS of the internet.
John is right on the money here. The history of government regulation of
“natural monopolies” has always been about the money. It has provided countless
jobs for regulators at every level - from City Hall to the State Public Utility
Commissions, to the FCC. And it has created an industry run from K-Street, that
files the massive amount of regulatory paperwork, and lobbyists to protect the
monopolies from competition.
The Wheeler FCC did not waste any time trying to regulate the Internet.
But John missed the real elephant in the room, although the link to the Prager
U video did expose the reality. The real evil in the Title II decision was that
it placed constraints on the companies that have the scale to compete with the
edge services, which have become the latest “unnatural monopolies.”
The video of the Google cry session meeting after the 2016 election says
volumes. Weekly meetings at the White House says volumes. Censorship and
demonetizing conservatives says volumes...
The fact that Google carried the water for Obama, that Facebook opened its
platform to Obama in the 2012 campaign, and that these companies are now
helping the European Commission craft regulations that will entrench these new
monopolies is the glaring evidence that this has NEVER been about “neutrality.”
