I have a DTV Pal Plus. I've taken it apart. The circuit board is from 2008. It is possible that the DTV PAL DVR is newer, but it has always been in short supply, even at $299. It is exclusive to Sears these days. http://dishnetwork.com/dtvpal/ Living in Los Angeles, I'd rather have a Sezmi for OTA at $249. and $5. /month http://sezmi.com We are nearing, if not at the end of developmental life for ATSC a/65 receivers as we know it, incorporating the "classic" mpeg 2. At CES it was all about MDTV and ATSC/153, which uses h.264 Frank Martin http://mphbroadcastservices.com --- On Mon, 4/5/10, Richard Hollandsworth <holl_ands@xxxxxxxxx> wrote: From: Richard Hollandsworth <holl_ands@xxxxxxxxx> Subject: [opendtv] Re: Are there ANY new ATSC Set Top Box - Receivers being made??? All of the currently available OTA HD-STBs at the top of the list came out about the same time or somewhat AFTER the CECBs came out and probably use 6th Gen chips, although you'll have to read through the threads to see if anyone looked inside to ID the chip part numbers. If not, feel free to query owners to open up their box and post a photo..... holl_ands ex-keeper of the "What's in your CECB" Spread Sheet: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?p=14872530 ========================================= --- On Sat, 4/3/10, Cliff Benham <flyback1@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote: From: Cliff Benham <flyback1@xxxxxxxxxxx> Subject: [opendtv] Are there ANY new ATSC Set Top Box - Receivers being made??? To: opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Date: Saturday, April 3, 2010, 8:35 AM Looking on Google and AVS Forum today, I can find no reference to either a new set top box design made after 2006, or a 6th generation chip. Nor any ads for such. Are there any newer STBs available with ?2009-2010? designs or 6th or ?later? generation chips available for purchase by consumers? Or, are there any such newer professional broadcast receivers available? The STBs I've used are not capable of satisfactory reception: RCA, Panasonic, Channel Master, Zenith, Samsung, Digital Stream, Philips. If not, I find it extremely outrageous that new receivers are not available. Again, I absolutely refuse to pay for television with commercials when it should be available for free over the air.
