Once again you completely missed it Bert, as you did with the
thread about the growth of Netflix...
This article makes a simple point - AND not OR.
Once again, Craig, you find it impossible to understand beyond mere
banalities.
In the print media, there definitely is a lot less use of the printed medium.
It's complete banality to claim that the print medium is still used. Sure,
but way less than previously. That's why magazine space in supermarkets has
been reduced so drastically. That's why so many large and small bookstores
have closed their doors.
Hey Bert.
How did this thread start?
You posted an ARTICLE from Biz Report...
It did not include streaming audio...
It did not include streaming video...
I don't know if Biz Report has a printed version, but it most definitely is a
journalistic product that is taking advantage of a new publishing medium.
Yes magazines and newspapers are killing fewer trees, but they are still
reaching consumers. The check-out aisle at the supermarket is still filled with
the National Enquirer, Cosmopolitan, and other magazines; larger stores still
have a magazine section. And Amazon is still selling printed books - by the
millions. We still have several large book stores here in Gainesville.
You need to think before writing stupid banalities like "there is a lot less
use of printed medium." Your beloved Internet is a HUGE print medium!
And yes, it is changing the way we consume journalist products.
In the TV set example, in terms of hours per day, use of the TV set has not
dropped that much, if at all. Sure, the percentage of video consumed from the
TV set has dropped, but that's only because so much more video is consumed
every day. In terms of absolute time per day, the TV set is still very much
in use. We have seen these numbers on use of TV set. And the TV set is not
JUST used to watch TV programming.
So what is the TV used for other than watching TV programming Bert?
Video Games?
Web browsing?
Your PC/TV setup IS NOT a TV. If you decide to use it to surf the net or
respond to an OpenDTV thread, I seriously doubt you pick up your Bluetooth
keyboard and sit seven feet from the screen...
We now have multiple screens that are used for multiple applications.
But the TV is somewhat unique. In many cases it is turned on, but we are doing
other things. If I buy a magazine or newspaper and place it on the coffee table
it is not the same kind of 'background noise" provided by a TV.
Printed media, whether on paper or a mobile screen requires your full
attention. Likewise, enjoying a TV show or movie - i.e. really watching and
enjoying the story requires our attention. But a very large percentage of what
is on the TV or radio is just background noise. It is quite common to be
focused on something else - often another screen as I am doing now.
Most legacy media are not dying, but they are being forced to
evolve and expand the way they reach consumers via MULTIPLE media.
Proof that Craig cannot get past mere banalities. It's what I call
"self-soothing," for the legacy media aficionados. Get beyond trite, Craig.
Get real Bert.
There is nothing new here Bert. Just the evolution in technology that is
providing new options for the distribution of information and entertainment.
Regards
Craig
