And just because Craig writes something it doesn't make it correct either!
Especially when he resorts to flooding us with too many words!
Nothing in the ADI report, including the mistaken conclusion of
the author, tells us that subscribers are choosing to view an
Internet stream rather than the QAM equivalent.
Of course it does, and I already explained it. So here it is again, this time
not including anything on type of content streamed.
The statistic is that TVE authentications more than doubled YoY.
Okay, you're right. Does this exact quote change the bottom line, though?
Quoting:
http://www.cmo.com/articles/2016/2/24/adi-q4-digital-video-benchmark-report.html
"According to ADI's 'Q4 Digital Video Benchmark' report, iOS share of TVE
decreased 20% year over year (YoY), while connected devices saw 31% growth."
If use of connected devices to TV sets grew by 31% **overall**, for all
content, it is obviously replacing something, Craig. It's replacing a
combination of live and/or on demand QAM broadcast streams, or ultimately, it
may also be replacing TV content viewership entirely (in favor of OTT content).
But no matter how you slice it, it is content that is bypassing the STB.
It is probably true that some thing are missed in any audience
measurement scheme.
You think, Craig? Like, we haven't seen that story repeated multiple times,
including by Nielsen, in recent times? Or are you banking on Superbowl
viewership really plummeting? I think it's fair to say that **even for live
sports**, streaming online is on the increase.
As I said in my first response in this thread Bert, TVE can
be used for time shifting INSTEAD of a DVR.
Why are you going on and on about the obvious, Craig? If people use TVE to time
shift, instead of the DVR or PVR, they are clearly *not* using the QAM
broadcast streams. If people watch live TV online, they aren't using the QAM
broadcast streams. So this plays right in the hands of any effort to allow
third party STBs. The increase is hardly tiny.
