Facts matter Bert. I did not make up the stories about the size of the Super
Bowl audience.

The statistic is that TVE authentications more than doubled YoY.
Okay, you're right. Does this exact quote change the bottom line, though?
Quoting:
http://www.cmo.com/articles/2016/2/24/adi-q4-digital-video-benchmark-report.html
"According to ADI's 'Q4 Digital Video Benchmark' report, iOS share of TVE
decreased 20% year over year (YoY), while connected devices saw 31% growth."
Thank you.
The report said exactly what I said. The iOS share of a much larger total
decreased; the use of iOS to access TVE increased along with other devices,
especially connected TV boxes.
If use of connected devices to TV sets grew by 31% **overall**, for all
content, it is obviously replacing something, Craig.
Obviously it replaced several things Bert.
- viewing of live streams when away from the umbilical;
- viewing of recent shows on demand - mostly in place of DVR
- viewing of library content
It's replacing a combination of live and/or on demand QAM broadcast streams,
or ultimately, it may also be replacing TV content viewership entirely (in
favor of OTT content). But no matter how you slice it, it is content that is
bypassing the STB.
I already said that. You are repeating yourself.
You think, Craig? Like, we haven't seen that story repeated multiple times,
including by Nielsen, in recent times?
Repeating yourself again. We know that statistical sampling of audience size is
not accurate. And we know that it it possible to measure OTT streaming with
excellent accuracy.
Or are you banking on Superbowl viewership really plummeting? I think it's
fair to say that **even for live sports**, streaming online is on the
increase.
Certainly for people that are mobile or away from home. I saw another ADI
report that says streaming in hotel rooms is being used more than the TV in the
hotel room.
And the Super Bowl ratings were down slightly YoY (~-2%). They did not plummet,
nor did the OTT audience grow dramatically (+7%).
As I said in my first response in this thread Bert, TVE can
be used for time shifting INSTEAD of a DVR.
Why are you going on and on about the obvious, Craig? If people use TVE to
time shift, instead of the DVR or PVR, they are clearly *not* using the QAM
broadcast streams. If people watch live TV online, they aren't using the QAM
broadcast streams. So this plays right in the hands of any effort to allow
third party STBs. The increase is hardly tiny.
Again I said this. You continue to repeat yourself.
But the increase IS tiny. Only 17.4% of subscribers used TVE in Q4/15, and only
21% of these streams were viewed on connect d TVs. That's about 3.6%.
Regards
Craig
