Another bill that will eventually be ruled illegal - the States have no
standing here, with the possible exception of contracting for ISP services for
state agencies.
And once again, the bill focuses on the largely non-existent problems and
completely ignores the fact that many companies based in California violate net
neutrality on a daily basis. When will someone get concerned that edge
providers are censoring content?
The Zero Rating provision will be challenged, as it was when the FCC attempted
to interfere with the marketplace under Obama. There is nothing illegal, or
improper about a company paying to have it’s bit delivered.
Zero rating entire categories would benefit consumers, but makes little sense
for currently “metered” services. Eventually the problem will disappear when
data caps become meaningless.
It’s time to turn the tables on the people who are desperately trying to
resuscitate the Obama Net Neutrality rules. Let’s focus on the real issues:
Censorship, demonetization, and the blatant promotion of fake information.
