The University does not shut down, but attendance during the summer terms is quite low compared to the fall and spring semesters. Students are a significant part of the Gainesville market; I think UF has >40,000 students during the fall/spring.
Total population of the county is now 227.000. It is not clear how many students are included in this number.
I strongly suspect that the only time most of these students watch CBS is when they are carrying Gator football games. If they are not going to a game or watching, chances are good that they are partying - UF was just recognized as the #1 party school in the nation. The administration is trying to prohibit beer kegs on campus, including Frat houses. I would be pissed at the potential loss of market for Swamphead Beer, but the frat boys typically buy cheap Bud Light kegs.
