I can't imagine myself going back to vinyl records. They could easily become
the object of obsessively compulsive behavior, to try to tame their obvious
shortcomings.

In the last few years of vinyl, I had modified an AR turntable, one of those
that only had an on-off switch, to install in it this Vestigal tone arm, made
by a company called Transcriptor:

And installed an Ortofon cartridge in it.

Sure made me appreciate CDs. This kind of setup required painstaking
calibration, not exactly something I'd want to go back to. You had to learn all
the arcane details of record-playing geometry, to get it set up right. I still
have the AR and the tonearm.
