All systems are saddled with legacy the same way. So all will be very careful when they do decide to upgrade. One *good* thing about 8T-VSB is that we can benefit from smarter receivers right away, without having to change the transmission standard. And that is because when 8T-VSB was invented, the receivers just were not smart enough to demod the signal very well. In other words, the system was set to a higher spectral efficiency than the receiver technology could work with reliably. In a sense, that can be good. As we discussed years and years ago, Moore's Law works to the advantage of ATSC in this regard. Before going on with the inflexibly negative comments, I would think the naysayers would consider how off they were on so many facts. For example, indoor reception that was originally deemed practically impossible, or reception in Rayleigh channels that was originally deemed imnpossible, or reception in Brazil E specifically that the know-it-alls declared would never be possible with 8T-VSB, or SFN applicability, or availability of a HM-like mode, or cost, or power requirements. At some point, one would think people would pause before making inflexible declarations?
