East Orange went for more like $5 million after you dial out the
games. Still a good sale.

3. Low-Power Station Prices

Low-power television stations have often been looked at with disdain
despite their longstanding presence in the Hispanic television
market. Low-power stations have traditionally been used to establish
a low-cost presence in secondary Latino markets. Increasingly, big
bucks are being paid for low-power stations in or around major
markets. CaribeVision, an outfit headed by former Telemundo executive
Carlos Barba, recently paid $3 million for a low-power station in
Miami and $10 million for one in East Orange, N.J.

Low-power station prices in Latino markets are the canary in the coal
mine of Hispanic television. If prices remain high (some would say
inflated), then the market generally perceives there is still growth
potential in the Hispanic television market. A significant drop in
prices would foretell a drop in growth potential.
