Didn't TVNZ sell of their satellite biz some time ago, okay this was mainly an international consulting operation, but still? Not up to speed on replacement schedule of Optus or its parent SingTel, sorry. The region's satellite ops are still (very much) unconsolidated, so replacement is quite often problematic, one Indonesian operator's bird was litterarily about to fall from the skies, as the replacement got postponed a few years back. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Barry Wilkins" <barry.barrywilkins@xxxxxxxxx> To: <opendtv@xxxxxxxxxxxxx> Sent: Thursday, March 30, 2006 11:00 PM Subject: [opendtv] Re: Optus B1 satellite off air since around 6.30pm yesterday NZ time Thanks for the explanation John. I was a little concerned because of the frequent talk regarding the age of the Optus B1 satellite and its likely impending retirement. Do you know anything regarding the possible switch to a newer satellite, maybe Optus D1? We could certainly do with some competition from TVNZ and others to make this game a better deal for the subscribers and cover such things as the above event but is this likely? Well I think about as likely as a flying piggy knocking the satellite off alignment.
