Yes, I didn't understand your original intent, which I agree with=2E=20

When I said legacy issue, I was implying that the CE vendors are=20
desperately holding onto the home entertainment "legacy" that they=20
helped to create=2E A legacy of components that can be interconnected=20
and controlled using dumb remote controls that depend on "programming=20
the consumer" not the devices=2E All of the "logic" is inside our=20
heads, not inside the machines=2E

For example, even with a multi-function remote control, you will=20
still need to switch the TV/monitor input manually to the DVD player,=20
and most likely adjust the volume, and possibly the display mode to=20
optimize the presentation=2E These selections will be much the same,=20
every time you decide to switch from watching TV (cable/DBS/OTA) to=20
the DVD player, Tivo, or VCR=2E But this "logic" must be programmed=20
into the user, not the devices=2E

My wife and father-in-law still cannot master these simple=20
"programming steps=2E" So when they want to watch a DVD or tape, they=20
call on me to push the buttons=2E=2E=2E

Now imagine having DVD, Tivo, and VCR icons on your "set-top" along=20
with icons for the TV channels you watch most often=2E=2E=2E

Or a system as smart as my Powerbook, that puts the DVD controller=20
and video window up on the screen when I put a DVD movie into the=20
drive=2E=2E=2E

Craig
