I'm on a 750 MHz Comcast system here in Silicon Valley. It's still entirely MPEG-2. Even as an engineer, I'm quite satisfied with the service. I get 100+ HD channels, and 100 Mbps burst, 50 Mbps sustained from an internet plan that's advertised as 25 Mbps.

About the only thing that would be nice to have is the secondary HBO, Showtime and Starz channels on HD.

Craig nailed it when he said "This is a "case study" in why engineers are rarely successful running companies."

Waiting is worth money too. The technology is still evolving rapidly, and each
new generation gets cheaper, and/or leverages earlier investments.
