Isn't Ars Technica read by geeks? The "streaming content apps" > I need are a web browser and Flash Player. Nothing endless about that, eh? It's a niche product for those who want access to ALL content through one device, and the ability to access recorded shows via the internet. It may appeal to sports nuts. As for the endless amount of streaming content on the Internet, you still cannot access a significant portion of the content locked up in the MVPD walled gardens without a subscription. Apps are mostly a mobile phenomenon, now moving to smart TV's, and add on streaming "devices" for your TV. It's kind of like saying that there are endless roads to drive on in the U.S., but without a subscription you can't drive on the Interstate Highways. Not sure what that Flash player is needed for anymore. It is only useful on desktops, and most sites ALSO support h.264 without Flash. Mobile is now about 20% of all web access, and if you add Netflix, which is h.264 on Roku, Apple TV, and Smart TV's, the vast majority of audio/video delivered over the web no longer uses Flash. Connecting a PC to a TV is a small (and declining) market Bert. Just for traditional (i.e. mostly older) geeks these days.
